Healthcare Workforce Information

The CMSP Governing Board is aware of the unique constraints that its member counties face in recruiting and retaining necessary healthcare workforce members. The pandemic, varying population densities, climate, resource availability and topography of CMSP counties lead to unique challenges that make it difficult to ensure access to quality care for county residents.

In 2023, CMSP partnered with the UCSF Healthforce Center to research the healthcare workforce and healthcare educational pathways in the CMSP and Rural County Representatives of California (RCRC) counties.

Findings of the UCSF Healthforce Center study are detailed here: The Healthcare Workforce Landscape in County Medical Services Program (CMSP) & Rural County Representatives of California (RCRC) counties.

On April 3, 2024, the CMSP Governing Board hosted a Healthcare Workforce Convening to present these new findings on the availability of healthcare professionals in the 35 CMSP counties – health care, oral health, and behavioral health – and the current educational pathways for these health professions in CMSP counties. During the convening CMSP stakeholders learned about the status of the healthcare workforce in CMSP counties and provided recommendations on next steps needed to address workforce needs.

Updates on CMSP healthcare workforce development efforts will be posted on this page as they become available.
